Program Notes:
The Horizon l,{ind Quintet was founded by Terry Jackson in 1974. The Quintet gives concerts and performs music for church services, parties, weddings and special events in the Bay Area. They have performed in concert series including Old First Church in San Francisco, Noon Concerts at UC Berkeley, Sommermusik series at First Congregational Church, Berkeley. Horizon members helped organize twenty years of Eine Kleine Sommermusik concerts.

Clarinet: Terry Jackson grew up in the Bay Area and has played with various musical organizations, primarily in Berkeley, for over forty years. He was one of the original organizers of the Eine Kleine Sommermusik series. In addition to membership in theHorizon Quintet he performs as a free-lance musician. Terry is an engineer at Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory.

Horn: Gary Jagard is a life-long Bay Area resident, and is a San Francisco State University graduate. He studied with Earl Saxton and Herman Dorfrnan of the San Francisco Symphony and played professionally with that Symphony. He also performed with a variety of other organizations including the Lamplighters and the Golden Gate Park Band. For the past thirty-three years Gary has taught instrumental music and is currently the band director at the Adams Middle School in Richmond.

Flute: Nancy Knop studied with Michael Mennone and Samuel Baron in Connecticut. She also performed with the Wayland Woodwind Quintet and as principal and soloist with local orchestras there. After moving to Berkeley, Nancy joined the Horizon Quintet in 1978. She was involved as an organizer of the Eine Kleine Sommermusik series for fifteen years. She is a biology teacher and a chair of the Science Department at the Head-Royce School in Oakland. Nancy also teaches flute privately.

Oboe: Nancy Maxwell is principal oboist and has been a featured soloist with the Diablo Symphony Orchestra. She has played with the Performing Arts Chamber Orchestra, Moraga Chamber Croup, Concord Pavilion Orchestra, Livermore Symphony, Musica dolce/San Francisco Opera Orchestra, Vallejo Symphony, Diablo Light Opera Company, and the Contra Costa Musical Theatre. Nancy grew up in Texas, were she was honored as Outstanding Woodwind Performer. She currently studies with Tom Nugent of San Francisco. Nancy is a legal secretary.

Bassoon: Jim Reiter studied with Arthur Kubey, principal bassoonist of the Pittsburgh Symphony. He was solo bassoonist of symphony orchestras in Ann Arbor and Cincinnati. Locally he has performed
with the California and Diablo Symphonies and the Performing Arts Chamber Orchestra. Jim is the managing director of The Center for Culinary Development in San Francisco.

Pianist: Maria Reeves learned to play the piano in Seattle, where the climate provided her with ample opportunities to stay indoors and practice. Her teacher, Mollie Adams emphasized ensemble playing and music theory as well as the solo literature. In 1978 after having launched a career in forensic illustration, Ms. Reeves retuned to ensemble playing and began performing in several chamber groups, among them The Lyra Trio, The New Albion Chamber Players, The Normandy Trio, and most recently The Joyov Sextet. A veteran of many chamber music workshops, she serves as Co-Directer of The Grand Pacific Chamber Music Society.
